About Me
I’m a longtime writer, designer, and technologist with a passion for making complex systems understandable — and a habit of building things with whatever tools and materials are at hand.
Professionally, I spent over 30 years working in the audio and industrial amplifier industry. I started as a writer, editor, and layout designer at Electro-Voice, then moved into senior technical communication roles at Crown Audio and later AE Techron — a spin-off from Crown's industrial division (Techron) focused on high-powered linear and switch-mode amplifiers used in EMC testing, battery simulation, and magnetic field generation. These weren’t off-the-shelf products; they were precision tools with serious power and nuance, and I worked closely with engineers to explain them to field technicians, research labs, and industry pros.
Along the way, I became fluent in the tools of the trade: I’ve spent 20+ years with Adobe Creative Suite, doing technical illustration, graphic design, layout, PDF form creation, and the occasional bit of presentation creation and video editing. I also have over 20 years in web development, and have built full-stack tools and websites using HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, and SQL. I've supported UI/UX development for Crown's IQ software and AE Techron’s 3110A Standards Waveform Generator software, helping bridge the gap between technical functionality and user-friendly design.
These days, I’m applying the same design, development, and documentation skills to personal projects — like setting up a small off-grid solar system, building a custom electronics enclosure, restoring furniture, experimenting with automated drip irrigation, and creating a pond to be used with the irrigation system. Some of these are about sustainability, some are about self-reliance, and some are just about learning by doing. I’m not an expert in everything I try — but I bring a lot of experience in figuring things out, explaining how they work, and making the process enjoyable for others.
Whether you're here to learn about solar inverters, read up on a DIY repair, or just follow along as I build and tinker, I’m glad you’ve found your way here.
